CD: Skinflower 'A Different Engine' (Custom Noise, 1998)
Obscure New York band whose 1998 album (one and done, I think?) brings together a great mix of angsty heartland noise-rock and New York guitar squall chaos, influenced by some Sonic Youth, some AmRep catalog. It's a cool mix with some unique percussive interludes and samples that give it a lot of atmosphere. Really surprised not to find more about this band on the web, they remind me a lot of one of those misunderstood Lawrence, Kansas or Cleveland noise-rock bands that were accessible, but not quite catchy enough for the "alternative" train of the day. Well worth checking out!
