Robert Ashford is a law professor at Syracuse University as well as a modern classical composer.  Though his work is contemporary, it is influenced by the early classical period, from the Renaissance to 1830, a form Ashford insisted in the 1990 liner notes was not yet creatively fully explored.

These tracks were part of a longer work, still in progress at the time.
They are performed on violin, viola, cello, piano, clarinet, flute, oboe, horn and bassoon.
